healthy living habits

A healthy life is surely the greatest desire of all of us. After all, without health, life does not have the same meaning. The best way to feel happy, energetic and healthy in the future is to lead a happy, energetic and healthy life in the present. The benefits and pleasures produced are both immediate and long-term.

Often, we can’t stop the path of life. Despite this fact, life is also the result of our attitudes and behavior. We are, therefore, the result of our experiences.

How to have a healthy life?

“What to do to be healthy?”, “How to start a healthy life?”, or “How to have a healthy and happy life?”, are questions often asked by people.

Let us first address the question: what does it mean to be healthy? According to the World Health Organization (WHO) health is “physical, mental and social well-being, rather than the mere absence of disease…”. In other words, being healthy is not just the absence of disease, but essentially the physical and mental well-being of the individual. It is not by chance that the WHO defines health in this way, giving the word a much broader meaning than just the simple antonym of disease.

Although health appears naturally associated with the word medicine, it goes far beyond the meaning that common sense often attributes to it, usually associating it only with curative medicine. Medicine is, however, much more than that, as its main concern is the prevention of diseases.

Doctors are aware that prevention is fundamental in a health system that wants to be “healthy”.

People’s lifestyle, poor diet, stress, among other factors, are strongly contributing to exacerbate the problems. We could cite, as examples, diabetes and arterial hypertension, diseases closely associated with the habits of modern populations.

Many of the problems that modern medicine helps to solve could be easily avoided if some of the essential recommendations for the practice of a healthy lifestyle were followed .

Changing habits and behaviors is imperative and unavoidable. This is not to say that we should strictly follow all the rules to achieve a healthy life , as if it were a rigid, painful and even castrating plan for people. Life must be lived with intensity and with pleasure, so we should never become mere prisoners of attitudes/behaviours that, despite being healthier, would be simultaneously painful and limiting.

Life is made of options. Take yours in mind, find the balance between the pros and cons of your personal tastes, towards a healthier life and without forgetting, ultimately, that it is your quality of life that you want to improve.

We talk about changing attitudes that stimulate us and lead us to happiness, and at the same time improve our health condition. This is not always possible, of course, but in the vast majority of cases, it is perfectly attainable.

As an example, imagine yourself on a simple walk in nature or enjoying your favorite piece of fruit. These are two simple examples in which it is completely feasible, at the same time, to enjoy life and improve one’s health condition.

Food, exercise

Healthy living is also in our hands. Let us not assume that we can eat excessive amounts of sugar every day and that if we ever suffer from diabetes it will merely be a matter of fate and bad luck. We cannot judge that being subject, daily, to high doses of stress and persistently, we will not one day pay a high price for it. Let us not think that we can be smokers for years and we will not reap respiratory problems and a degradation of our quality of life.

Our attitudes are reflected sooner or later in our health.

Obviously, our attitude towards life is a determining factor in making it healthier. Think about life positively and feel good about yourself before any action.

At the very least, keep in mind two important things. First, nutrition . A good diet can do much more for your health than you might think. Nutrition and healthy living are inseparable concepts.

Second, physical exercise . This, if done properly, can also considerably improve your health and well-being , thus contributing to a better quality of life.

Think of exercise as something positive and relaxing and not something rigid and “has to be”. Find out which activity you like the most and realize the benefits it can provide you.

Just change these two factors and discover a healthier life .

If you want to delve deeper into these and other topics, we advise you to read articles on nutrition and the benefits of physical exercise on our blog .

Quality of life

How many of us have felt the discomfort caused by a simple back pain. Or felt the discomfort caused by repetitive colds, often caused by weaknesses in our immune system.

We could point to many examples, however, we all understand that illness or malaise drastically reduces our quality of life .

We live today in an era where time has come to dictate the rules. The scarcity of time leads people to live in a constant race against this precious asset.

We don’t have time to eat good food, we don’t have time to exercise, we don’t have time to talk to people, we don’t have time for many things considered essential in our life. These behaviors, unfortunately, generate several problems, with serious consequences for our health and well-being.

In the presence of these problems, if on the one hand, people are strongly affected in their health, on the other hand, their quality of life is greatly degraded.

In short, we would say that it is not possible to have a good quality of life without having healthy lifestyle habits .

healthy longevity
The average life expectancy a few decades ago was substantially lower.

With the improvement of living conditions and medical advances, it has been gradually rising. It’s a good thing it is, because we all want to live better and longer.

The current objective is not just to live longer. It is to have lasting health, that is, to lead an active, healthy, happy and purposeful life. However, living longer does not mean living better. Often, the increase in average life expectancy is at the expense of more or less sophisticated treatments, which, despite being effective, greatly degrade people’s quality of life. We should not only want to live longer, but also to live better.

Longevity is also in our hands. We firmly believe that we must focus our attention on maintaining a healthy condition, taking for granted that our attitudes in the present will have a profound impact on our future health.

If you want to live healthy and for longer, start taking measures in this direction today, that is, measures that are assertive, healthy and that at the same time contribute to your current well-being.

Benefits of a healthy life

The benefits of healthy living are numerous for people. It will not be necessary, therefore, to describe them exhaustively, as we all know how gratifying it is to feel healthy or, on the contrary, how painful it is to feel sick.

However, the benefits of healthy living don’t stop there. Health costs are increasingly unaffordable for people, either directly or indirectly through their taxes that are channeled to the National Health Service.

There are studies that clearly demonstrate that for every euro invested in prevention , we can have a substantial return in savings with curative health treatments.

In other words, the priority of investment should be channeled towards disease prevention . On the other hand, the social and economic costs caused by illnesses in terms of absenteeism from work, among others, have a very significant weight, with increasing expenditure on social protection.

Health and wellness

It is indisputable that there is today a great focus on curative health, where medicine has evolved, extraordinarily, in recent years. As we have seen, these advances in medicine have indisputably brought greater life expectancy and a better quality of life for people.

In the absence of health, our whole life is conditioned and we cannot, therefore, live and savor it to the fullest.

We must therefore reflect on our future, as our quality of life will also reflect the way we live today.

Therefore, a new paradigm should emerge, where the promotion of health and more assertive attitudes on the part of people allow the prevention of disease, with enormous benefits for their health, managing to improve the quality of life and well-being. In short, it is intended that each of us develop a healthier lifestyle, where health comes first.

For all these reasons, we firmly believe that the commitment to disease prevention, health promotion and well-being are of paramount importance.
